KIDS for the BAY would love to spend a morning or afternoon teaching
your students about their local environment!
Our science workshops engage students in hands-on learning on a variety of topics. They are offered to:
• after-school and home school programs
• private and public schools
• scout troops, youth groups, and other non-formal education groups
Our engaging activities help young scientists
learn grade level state standards while having fun! We offer two types
of Science Workshops: two-hour Exploring Through Science
Workshops and
multi-lesson In-Depth Science Workshops.
Exploring Through Science Workshops
All About Water (K-2nd, ages 5-7)
Through hands-on activities students learn about the water cycle, conduct
water experiments and create special salt water art.
Soar into the World of Birds (K-2nd, ages 5-7)
Investigate bird feathers, beaks and feet. Listen to bird calls and learn
what foods birds eat and what they need to survive.
Watershed Explorations (3rd–5th, ages 8-10)
Students learn about the San Francisco Bay and conduct hands-on
science experiments and activities that engage them with their local
watershed.
Become a Bay Steward! (3rd–5th, ages 8-10)
Students explore the significance of storm drains, investigate different types of pollution and take action by conducting a neighborhood clean-up.
The Wonderful World of Worms (Preschool–5th, ages 3-10)
Students learn all about compost and the organisms that help organic matter decompose, and investigate live red wiggler worms!
Bay or Creek Discovery Field Trip (K–5th, ages 5-10)
In our field trip program, students explore unique aquatic ecosystems at creek and Bay shoreline habitats. Each experience involves close-up, hands-on encounters with nature. Investigate invertebrates, study native plants and create nature art.
In-Depth Science Workshops
Estuary Action!
Bring the San Francisco Bay into the classroom! This program includes: a three hour classroom presentation about bay estuary ecology, a field trip to a local creek or the bay, and an action project where students take action to help protect the local environment.
Reduce , Reuse , Recycle & Rot!
Ever wonder where our garbage goes, or what happened to that plastic water bottle you recycled? This program includes: a three-hour presentation where students learn to conserve natural resources and reduce waste, and an action project which helps to improve their local environment.
Field Trip: KftB can also arrange a field trip to the Davis Street Transfer Station in San Leandro (for Alameda County residents) or the West Contra Costa Integrated Resource Recovery Facility in Richmond (for West Contra Costa County residents).
